Phil Stroud B.Eng: Honours in Civil and Structural Engineering gained from the University of Sheffield, in July 1976. CEng: Chartered engineer by virtue of my membership of the Institution of Civil and Structural Engineers for 23 years. MICE:Full member of the Institution of Civil Engineers for 23 years. MIStructE: I have been a full member of the Institution of Structural Engineers for 21 years. Eur Ing: I am a Registered Engineer with FEANI European Registration Body for Engineers with the designated title of Eur Ing for 21 years. I have extensive experience gained both on site and in design work. 7 years experience in construction prior to 24 years design office experience has provided me with a practical approach which is applied to the designs and reports produced. My construction experience has ranged from major civil engineering contracts to domestic constructions. My subsequent design experience has complimented my extensive site experience. I have had 21 years design office experience with 7 years of that period working in an established Consultants Offices in Bedford and for 9 years running a regional office for a national Civil and Structural Engineering Parctice in Suffolk. I have managed property developments for a National PLC Company. For the last 7 years I have established my own practice based in Suffolk in which I am a Director. My workload encompasses a wide range of projects, ranging from barn conversions, of which there have been 29 in the last 12 months, to general preparation of reports/surveys on domestic structures reporting on timber roof, conditions of walls with recommendation and repairs and also commercial construction from flats, offices, etc. The general workload of the practice ranges from domestic reports/surveys through to commercial developments in the region of £1.6million - £2.0million. I am conversant with all current structural materials. I have been on the committee of the Local branch of the Institution of Structural Engineers and support continuing professional development (CPD) and take great interest in developments and new techniques to broaden and enhance my experience and expertise. I am also a director of S A (Midlands) Ltd our sister office in Burton-upon-Trent which provides valuable back up for a varied workload and interaction to cover projects which fall within the area served by both offices. I have had two and a half years site experience working on construction sites prior to 29 years design office experience, gained partly with Consulting Engineers, and partly with precast concrete manufacturers. I was employed in the Civil Engineering Department of W. S. Atkins and Partners in Epsom, where I worked on a veriety of large projects including underground concrete structures, and foundations for heavy industrial structures in steel making plants, power stations, and defence installations. I worked for 4 years in the Bedford office of an established Structural Engineering Consultants office, where the work ranged from commercial office blocks to nursing homes and from new build housing, to refurbishment of town center department stores. My work for the major precast concrete manufacturing companies over a 14 year period included design of prestressed concrete elements as well as non-standard concrete structures such as spiral staircases, concrete elements in sports stadiums and precast concrete basements. For the last 4 years I have been working as a Director of Stroud Associates based in suffolk. My workload includes a wide range of projects from new build school extensions and prestige housing to barn conversions, house extensions, and also domestic surveys and reports. I also work on commercial developments in the region of £1.0million - £1.5milliom. I am conversant with all current structural materials and the British standards recommending their use. |
